Jared Michael Martin born April 9, 1997 in Springfield, Illinois passed away on June 14, 2014 in Christiansted, St Croix, United States Virgin Islands. Jared was raised in Kingston Springs, Tennessee where he attended school until his Junior year. During his time in Tennessee Jared enjoyed many activities in and out of school. He was an athlete with the love for soccer the most. Jared was keeper for the Harpeth Indians (Kingston Springs, Tennessee) and led them to the first ever in school history Men’s District Championship his 8th grade year. He then quickly advanced to the Varsity squad at Harpeth High School. During the fall semester of his junior year Jared moved with his family to St Croix in the United States Virgin Islands to pursue his dream of soccer at the collegiate and semi-professional level. Jared quickly was picked up and caused much enthusiasm in the soccer community.
Jared loved the underwater world and was a PADI certified Open Water Diver with Rescue Training. He has explored the most beautiful locations around the world including Bonaire, Grand Cayman, St Croix, Roatan, and Barbados.
Jared also loved history and was an active member of the 46th Tennessee Company K as a Civil War Re-enactor. Jared has loved history from a young age and began by being the Messenger for the Unit, then advancing to drummer boy and finally a full-fledged soldier. Jared traveled with his Step Father and Step Brother throughout the East and South-East to re-enactments of battles. Jared helped to re-enact the 150th commemorative battles of Gettysburg and Manassas, as well as many others.
Jared received an award for continuous service during the epic flooding of Nashville, TN in May 2010. Jared volunteered endless hours at the Red Cross Shelter as well as delivering food and water to area residents in need. He also participated in clean-up efforts that continued for months after before rebuilding could begin. Jared volunteered in elementary school with delivery of Angel Tree gifts to those in need. This ignited a fire within to insure people in need were assisted when possible.
Jared leaves behind his mother and step father Deb and Rich Martin of St Croix, USVI, his beloved pup Poco, his maternal grandmother Millie Walters of Waverly, Illinois, his paternal grandparents Dan and Vera Martin of Petersburg, Illinois, and his step grandparents Lewis (Brent) and Nancy Martin of Girard, Illinois. He also leaves a step brother Brent Martin of Marion, Illinois, two half-brothers Kameron and Connor Martin of Petersburg, Illinois. Jared leaves many aunts and uncles, and cousins throughout the Midwest and South.
Jared is preceded in death by his father Daniel Martin and his maternal grandfather Orval Walters.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00pm at the Harpeth High School Soccer Field behind Kingston Springs Elementary School on Monday, June 30, 2014. A commemorative soccer game will be held following with all invited to participate. The evening will conclude with a candle light vigil. Please wear your Harpeth attire or colors.
